Consumer Law
Consumer Law is a branch of law that includes regulations protecting the economic interests, health, and safety of consumers, and providing compensation for their damages. Consumer Law comprises the legal procedure to be applied in cases where a defective or damaged good or service is provided and no settlement can be reached between the seller and the consumer.
The purpose of Consumer Law is clearly stated in Law No. 6502 on the Protection of Consumers, which stipulates: “The purpose of this Law is to regulate matters concerning the adoption of protective, informative, and awareness-raising measures to safeguard the health, safety, and economic interests of the consumer in line with public interest, compensate for their damages, ensure protection against environmental hazards, encourage consumers’ self-protective initiatives, and promote voluntary organizations in the formation of policies regarding these issues.”
